Anapolon 25 is a pharmaceutical tablet formulation of Oxymetholone at 25 milligrams per tablet. Oxymetholone — marketed historically under the trade name Anadrol — is among the most potent oral anabolic steroids ever synthesized, distinguished by its exceptionally rapid onset and the magnitude of strength and mass gains it produces. Structural Profile

Oxymetholone is a 17-alpha methyl, 2-hydroxymethylene derivative of DHT. The 2-hydroxymethylene substitution is structurally unique among commercial anabolic steroids and substantially alters the compound's receptor binding profile. Although derived from DHT, oxymetholone is classified as highly estrogenic — paradoxically for a DHT derivative — which is currently hypothesized to result from direct estrogenic agonism at estrogen receptors (ERα) rather than aromatization, since oxymetholone does not aromatize in the classical sense. The anabolic-to-androgenic ratio is approximately 320:45 (vs testosterone 100:100).

Pharmacokinetic Profile

Oral oxymetholone is rapidly absorbed, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 1–3 hours post-dose. The plasma elimination half-life is 8–9 hours. Extensive hepatic first-pass metabolism occurs despite the 17-alpha methyl group; key metabolites include 17-alpha methyl-5-beta-dihydrotestosterone, detectable in urine for up to 8 weeks by current analytical methods. Plasma protein binding is low, with a high unbound free fraction contributing to rapid tissue distribution.

Mechanism of Action

Oxymetholone activates androgen receptors in skeletal muscle with high potency, dramatically upregulating protein synthesis, nitrogen retention, and IGF-1 production. The compound produces very rapid increases in intramuscular glycogen storage and significant increases in erythrocyte mass through stimulation of erythropoietin release, contributing to the pronounced vascularity and strength improvements observed. The estrogenic activity produces notable water retention which contributes to rapid body weight increases.

Hepatotoxicity Profile

Oxymetholone is one of the most hepatotoxic compounds in the 17-alpha alkylated oral steroid class. Dose-dependent elevations in aminotransferases (ALT, AST), alkaline phosphatase, and bilirubin are expected with therapeutic use. Cases of peliosis hepatis, cholestasis, and hepatocellular carcinoma have been associated with long-term high-dose use. Regular liver function panel monitoring is essential during administration.
